Job location:

Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. 

This position is located at the Community Forensic Mental Health Service (CFMHS) in Clifton Hill, 15 minutes from Melbourne's city centre. CFMHS is a specialist state-wide agency that works with individuals who have a serious mental health illness and have offended or are at risk of offending.

 

About the Role:

The Community Intake service provides a centralised point of contact for referrals to the wide range of Forensicare's community programs. The Senior Intake Clinician demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise and works closely with program managers in assessing and prioritising referrals in accordance with program criteria using an established matrix of risk, need and urgency. The intake position is autonomous and has carriage of complex referrals providing advice and support to referring services in the management of range of clients referred to Forensicare community services.

 

Duties:

  • Work within an ethically and legally sound framework.
  • Demonstrates initiative in the delivery of Intake in line with best practice models, legislative requirements, government policy and Forensicare policies and procedures.
  • Receives all Intake calls and ensures callers / referrers receive a response appropriate to their needs and situation
  • Presents succinct intake information at the weekly Intake meeting regarding more complex referrals, requiring a team based discussion.
  • Facilitates referrals to other agencies where appropriate and the provision of secondary consultations. 
  • Document the process and outcomes of all referrals as appropriate in the health record.
  • Develops links with and maintains relationships with relevant government and non-government organisations
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development through accessing internal and external staff development opportunities.

 

About You:

  • Discipline specific qualifications Registered Psychiatric Nurse as outlined below: Nursing: Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Must have current unrestricted registration with AHPRA and a post-graduate qualification in mental health nursing or equivalent.
  • At least five years' experience in providing a high level of services in forensic and/or correctional mental health and related settings (preferred).
  • Demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer recovery.
  • Knowledge of current mental health approaches to, and experience in, working with mentally disordered people in forensic mental health settings.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant legislation and service context including the Mental Health Act 2014, Sentencing Act 1991, Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and the criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive mental health and risk assessments for the purposes of evaluating service suitability. 

What you need:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
