Forensicare provides specialist mental health services at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in the Marrmak Unit, a 20-bed residential program for women prisoners with an intensive outreach program and a therapeutic day program.
There is a strong focus on providing a healing environment not only for the prisoners, but importantly also one that supports the well-being and safety of all staff involved. This approach recognises that many women who are imprisoned are indeed themselves victims of crime and have challenging mental health conditions as a result. The word Marrmak is from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people meaning ‘safe’.
About the role:
Autonomously plan, implement and evaluate Occupational Therapy specific assessment and interventions whilst undertaking required duties as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The OT will also provide a range of formal and informal groups that support a range of social and independent living skills.
Duties:
- Provide OT specific assessment and interventions
- Facilitate groups that support independent living skills
- Work collaboratively with both the consumer group and multidisciplinary team
- Support the facilitation of student education
Skills and experience:
- Work within an ethically and legally sound framework
- Contribute towards quality improvement initiatives
- Engage in professional development
- Ability to advocate for consumer needs
Mandatory qualifications & registrations:
- Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of OT Australia – Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
- The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential
- This position is subject to a Police Check.
