Forensic mental health is a specialist area within the mental health service system. The services provided by Forensicare address the needs of offenders experiencing mental health issues, the mental health sector, the justice sector and the general community. These services are delivered through three streams, inpatient services at Thomas Embling Hospital, community services through the Community Forensic Mental Health Service and prison based services at several locations.
There are currently 2 full time ongoing positions available at Thomas Embling Hospital and within Forensicare Prison Services.
Thomas Embling Hospital operates a 116 bed facility providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care services.
Forensicare provide prison based services in the following locations:
- Ravenhall Correctional Centre
- Port Phillip Prison
- Melbourne Assessment Prison
- Dame Phyllis Frost Centre
- Metropolitan Remand Centre
About the role
The Health Information Manager is responsible for the operational management of the Health Information Service at Forensicare's Prison Based Services and Thomas Embling Hospital.
This role is the key resource and contact person for Senior Clinical and Management Staff, in relation to Forensicare Health Information Service matters.
Duties:
- Coding of inpatient episodes (Thomas Embling Hospital) and prison bed based services episodes, in accordance with Australian and Victorian Coding standards
- Work collaboratively with the HIM Team at Forensicare and contribute to the strategic planning and policy development relating to Health Information Services
- Ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure all accreditation criteria are met for Health Information Management
- Provide leadership to the Health Information workforce
Qualification skills and experience
The successful candidate must have:
- A Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent
- Previous experience managing and developing a Health Information Service Tram
- Previous coding experience in accordance with Australian and Victorian Coding Standards
- Previous experience working with Rapid/CMI, Patient Administration Systems, Scanning or Electronic Health Records and Jcare prison system
- Excellent organisational time management and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated understanding of clinical data with the ability to prepare and present reports
