Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.
Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.
Thomas Embling Hospital is a 116 bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care services.

 

About the role:

The Newly purposely built development of Forensicare proposed to open in the new calendar year in 2019. Apsley Unit at Thomas Embling Hospital is an 8-bed, high-secure mental health unit commissioned to address ongoing bed pressure within the Victorian men’s forensic mental health system.

Aspley Unit provides a high standard of individualised, evidence-based treatment and care in a safe and therapeutic setting for patients in the most acute phase of a mental illness.  Aspley is a short-stay unit where timely assertive treatment is delivered with compassion and a focus on patient-centered practice and recovery.

The Unit accommodates male patients on a Secure Treatment Order (STO). Care is delivered by a clinical Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) with additional training in the delivery of high secure care.

 

We are seeking dynamic, high performing Registered Psychiatric Nurse with a sound understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities under relevant legislation.  The Registered Psychiatric nurse will act as a role model and practice within a recovery framework and values of Forensicare.  Overall, the clinician will form an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team and will be required to provide highly responsive and flexible service to consumers and carers whilst upholding a high level of professionalism. You need to demonstrate a high level of communication, interpersonal skills, and proven leadership qualities and values.

 

Duties:

  • Deliver evidence based therapeutic practices
  • Integrate security with therapeutic practices
  • Administer and monitor the effects of medication
  • Contribute to therapeutic programs for individuals and groups of patients consistent with a recovery approach
  • Provide support and education to carers/significant others

 

Qualification, skills and experience: 

  • Hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Possess current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • Knowledge of contemporary and ethical mental health nursing practice
