Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria. Completed in 2017, the new medium-security men's prison Ravenhall Correctional Centre is located in Melbourne's west, providing world-class forensic mental health services in Victoria in a purpose-built state of the art facility developed to international best practice standards.

 

About the role:

The Moroka program at Ravenhall Correctional Centre is recruiting for full time and part time Senior Psychologists (P3). Working within a large psychology team at Ravenhall Correctional Centre, the Senior Psychologist provides a high level of clinical expertise to Forensicare's services in the Moroka program. The multidisciplinary Moroka program provides psychologically-informed clinical forensic mental health assessment and intervention for prisoners with repetitive and entrenched complex and challenging behaviours related to mental illness, predominantly personality disorder. In addition to unit-based work, the senior psychologist will provide consultation and advice on complex clinical matters for prisoners that meet Moroka criteria within the wider correctional system. The successful candidates will have opportunities to contribute to special projects, committees, and working parties within the organisation. Duties:

  • Provides specialist psychological and psychometric assessments and reports.
  • Provides individual and/or group interventions within a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) framework.
  • Contributes to patient risk management plans in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and correctional staff.
  • Utilises high-level interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides discipline-specific contributions to clinical practice and to program development.
  • Participates in the training and supervision of psychology staff and placement students.
  • Delivers training to staff within the Moroka program and across the prison system
  • Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the program.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives within the Ravenhall Forensicare psychology department.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional development and clinical supervision.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to incorporating consumer and family/carer perspectives into service delivery at both an individual and organsation wide level.

 

Skills and experience:

  • At least five years’ experience in providing a high level of services with complex clients.
  • Listed as an endorsed supervisor (or eligible for being and willing to become so listed) with AHPRA.
  • Expertise in providing individual and/or group treatment to clients with mental illness and/or emotional and behavioural issues.
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve outcomes for patients.
  • Training and experience delivering DBT-based interventions desirable. 
  • Experience working with personality disorder desirable. 
  • Knowledge of best-practice approaches in working with clients in the forensic mental health setting desirable.

 

Mandatory qualifications & registrations:

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent, OR Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA)
  • The successful candidate will be required to register their qualifications on eCredential 
  • This position is subject to a Police Check.
